Timo Karttunen is a technology and transactional lawyer who focuses his practice on helping companies from Finland, Scandinavia and Baltics conduct business in the U.S. Timo uses the resources of the firm to offer advice on a range of legal questions, such as intellectual property rights, commercial contracts and employment matters, general corporate counseling and venture capital and other corporate transactions.
In addition, Timo works on a variety of litigation matters in conjunction with Baker Hostetler’s role as counsel to the court-appointed trustee under SIPA in the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC.
Timo has experience in innovative industries like software, Internet, mobile, telecommunications, IT, biotechnology and medical devices.
Before joining Baker Hostetler, Timo was an awarded in-house counsel for GE Healthcare’s multibillion-dollar Healthcare Systems business in Europe, Middle East and Africa, where he provided legal support for the medical devices and IT business in matters such as:
Prior to this, Timo was a senior associate with Roschier, Attorneys Ltd., in their technology practice in Finland. Timo advised domestic and foreign companies on intellectual property licensing, telecommunications regulation, software, semiconductor and IT agreements, free speech, e-commerce and ISP liability, public tenders and data protection. In addition, Timo worked on M&A and venture capital transactions.
In the past, Timo has been an international guest with Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett and Dunner, L.L.P. He has also trained at the bench in Finland.

Timo serves as Co-Chair of the Foreign Lawyers Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s International Section. He served as Vice-Chair of the Legal Committee and was a member of the Healthcare Committee for The American Chamber of Commerce in Finland through 2010.
