Wade Mitchell concentrates his practice in the areas of products liability, toxic tort, patent and commercial litigation. He represents clients in products cases involving automotive products, industrial machinery, construction cranes and furnaces. He has defended several major chemical manufacturers against claims of injury from chlorinated solvents, fiberglass resins and asbestos, requiring in-depth analysis and application of a wide range of epidemiological and medical literature.
Mr. Mitchell currently coordinates national asbestos litigation for a leading manufacturer of automotive braking systems and chassis components. Mr. Mitchell also has represented several former manufacturers of asbestos products in more than 3,000 cases brought by merchant seamen claiming injuries from asbestos exposure aboard ship and has represented a major national construction firm statewide in more than 1,000 cases claiming asbestos exposure in steel mills.
Mr. Mitchell’s experience in patent litigation includes representation at trial of the inventor of a fast-switching, liquid crystal light shutter, resulting in a $5 million verdict in favor of the client against a FORTUNE 500 company, as well as other patent cases involving industrial machines and pollution prevention devices. He has represented both owners and contractors in all phases of construction litigation and has been counsel for a national bonding company in a number of public contract cases.
His commercial litigation practice includes the representation of both plaintiffs and defendants in theft of trade secrets, fraudulent conveyance and bulk transfer actions. He has also counselled clients in matters relating to foreclosures of various liens and security interests and he participated in the orderly liquidation of a major clothing manufacturer.
Mr. Mitchell joined Baker Hostetler after serving in the United States Coast Guard for ten years. He practiced as a law specialist in the Coast Guard, prosecuting and defending courts-martial and providing legal advice in the areas of search and seizure, marine safety and aids to navigation. His other assignments included Liaison Officer to the United States House of Representatives and Operations Officer of a Coast Guard cutter.
Mr. Mitchell is a member of the American, Ohio and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations. He has served as president of the Willoughby-Eastlake City School Board of Education and as vice president of the Lake County, Ohio, Fine Arts Association and Laketran, the Lake County transit authority.
