Ward Procell Honored as a "Local Hero"
Orlando attorney Karen Ward Procell was honored with a "Local Heroes" award from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation and its "Neighborhood Excellence Initiative," which awarded a total of $2.8 million to 14 nonprofits throughout Florida.
The foundation honors five "local heroes" from Central Florida—individuals who have "contributed significantly to the health of their neighborhoods." Each receives a $5,000 donation from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to be donated to an eligible nonprofit of their choice. Procell is the founder of Return to Respect, an event that helps raise funds to provide assistance for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Since 2000, the event has raised nearly $500,000 for women and children who have experienced violence in their lives.
