William Doyle, a registered patent attorney, focuses his practice on intellectual property counseling and the preparation and prosecution of patents for domestic and foreign clients in the mechanical and electro-mechanical sciences.

Mr. Doyle’s experience encompasses patent preparation and prosecution in technology areas including medical devices such as robotic surgical systems, compressor ventilators, spinal implantation devices and tools, catheters and various laparoscopic tools; alternative energy technologies such as wind and marine turbine systems and innovative heat exchange systems; and a wide array of vehicular technologies, including steering control systems, axial gap electric motors, vehicular awareness systems, noise and vibration cancellation systems, transmission lubrication assemblies, engine manifold assemblies and air cooling systems.

Mr. Doyle assists in client counseling through the preparation of formal and informal opinions on, for example, freedom to operate, patentability and patent invalidity matters. His transactional experience includes the preparation and negotiation of complex license agreements, franchise and distributorship agreements, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) with U.S. government entities, Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), joint development agreements and non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements. Mr. Doyle works with clients on strategic planning and portfolio management, having managed the patent portfolios of a major U.S. university and one of the world’s largest private companies.

Prior to entering the field of law, Mr. Doyle spent more than ten years as a mechanical engineer in the government aviation and commercial satellite industries. He held a Secret level government clearance while working with the Navy, Marines and Air Force program offices in support of the V-22 Osprey (T-406 turboshaft engine development), the E-6B TACAMO aircraft and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programs. He served as configuration manager for two FORTUNE 100 companies and was responsible for management of the engineering baselines of a low earth orbiting satellite constellation.
