Why this matters

With a combined experience of more than three decades, Pressment and Papapetrou both bring impressive practices for globally recognized clients to the firm’s well-regarded Litigation Practice Group. The two join BakerHostetler from an international corporate law firm and are the latest of several litigation additions, including Tyler “Ty” Doyle earlier this month in the firm’s Houston office.

Key quote

“Jonathan and Christos have well positioned themselves as prominent litigators in New York and across the United States,” said Ray Whitman, firmwide chair of the Litigation Practice Group. “Their legal capabilities and strong skill sets make them a strategic addition to our Litigation Practice Group and an invaluable asset to clients.”

About Pressment’s practice

Pressment has served as a trusted adviser and counsel to some of the world’s most recognized Fortune 500 companies, institutions and individuals in some of their most complex civil litigation matters. Most recently, in December 2022, Pressment helped secure a complete dismissal of all claims brought against the National Football League, New York Giants, New York Jets and MetLife Stadium in a putative class action asserting claims for false advertising in the Southern District of New York. And in July 2022, Pressment and Papapetrou secured a $30 million arbitration award on behalf of a Fortune 50 client in a dispute arising from a virtual power purchase agreement pertaining to a renewable energy facility.

Pressment has experience before nearly all levels of state and federal courts in navigating virtually all aspects of case commencement, discovery, motion practice and trial practice. At his prior AmLaw 100 firm, Pressment was chair of their New York office litigation group and a two-term member of the firm’s board of directors.

Pressment is also well recognized for his role in the New York City legal community as a former three-term director on the board of the New York County Lawyers’ Association, one of the nation’s oldest and largest county bar associations.

He received his J.D., cum laude, from Tulane University Law School and his A.B., with honors, from Brown University.

About Papapetrou’s practice

Papapetrou has achieved national recognition for his work on behalf of a wide array of clients in their most challenging commercial litigation and white collar disputes. He represents clients across a diverse range of legal matters, including complex civil litigation, criminal investigations and prosecutions, regulatory enforcement proceedings, and internal investigations.

Papapetrou is often called upon by his clients to handle matters involving contract disputes, securities and consumer class actions, employment disputes, breaches of fiduciary duty, securities fraud, and insider trading. His clients also often turn to him for advice when facing cross-border investigation and other matters, as he has experience in both civil and criminal international cases and investigations.

Aside from his practice, Papapetrou is a leader in the New York legal community. Among other organizations to which he devotes his time, Papapetrou currently serves as a trustee of the Federal Bar Council and as membership co-chair of the Federal Bar Council’s Inn of Court.

Papapetrou received his J.D., cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Boston College. He also served as a judicial law clerk for the Hon. Peter G. Sheridan, U.S. district judge for the District of New Jersey, and the Hon. Loretta A. Preska, chief U.S. district judge for the Southern District of New York.
