  • Represented Forest City in $500 million Tower City Center project in downtown Cleveland. Involved financing issues, real estate issues, construction issues, and work with local and federal governmental entities.
  • Involved in acquisition of two city center Philadelphia projects, the first of which required negotiations covering a two-year period. Clients realized significant profits with minimum risk and exposure.
  • Counseled developers of a Newmarket project in Canton, Ohio—a $35 million downtown development project—that included a major office tower, a Hilton hotel, and a parking facility. Utilized variety of financing techniques, including conventional financing, an equity participation loan from a pension fund, UDAG funding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, financing from Ohio’s Department of Development, funds from charitable organizations, and private equity funding.

Experience

  • Counseled investors through the acquisition of two islands off St. Petersburg, Florida. Worked with local, state and federal agencies to permit development of the islands and secured necessary financing for the development.
  • Served as a developer's tax counsel in the rehabilitation of the luxury Book Cadillac Hotel in downtown Detroit, a highly sophisticated tax credit financing transaction that has received widespread publicity, including in The Wall Street Journal.
  • Worked with historic theaters around the country in connection with their potential historic renovation. Represented the Playhouse Square Foundation in historic and new markets tax credit projects in the Cleveland Theater District.
  • Worked with tax-exempt organizations on potential historic tax credit and new markets tax credit transactions. Continues to work on low-income housing tax credit transactions throughout the country.
