Ed Ptaszek has substantial experience working closely with clients on a broad variety of business planning, structuring and operating matters, with a particular emphasis on tax planning for corporations, partnerships, joint ventures and limited liability companies.
He has represented publicly and privately owned enterprises in a variety of industries, including real estate development firms, construction companies, manufacturing concerns, communications companies and a Major League Baseball team, with respect to merger and acquisition planning as well as ongoing, day-to-day advice and counsel – frequently serving as general counsel and special adviser for particular matters. Ed has extensive experience in planning for joint ventures between major enterprises, real estate development and business formation, and in the tax aspects of securitized asset-backed financing and tax-exempt financing.
Ed was the chief financial officer of a closely held business enterprise before attending law school. While attending law school, he was employed in the national tax department of one of the major national accounting firms. Ed has been active in the Tax Section of the American Bar Association and is a member of the General Tax Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Tax Section of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He has participated as a lecturer for various programs sponsored by the National Institute on Real Estate Taxation; New York University Continuing Education Programs; the American, Columbus and Cleveland Metropolitan bar associations; the Ohio Legal Center; and the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, and he has written articles published in national legal and accounting publications.
