Overview

Hannah Choate focuses her practice on commercial litigation and international trade compliance. She assists with compliance matters related to U.S. import and export controls and U.S. custom laws and regulations. Hannah has worked on several internal investigations and assessments of existing international trade compliance policies and procedures for multinational corporations. She has experience in drafting and submitting voluntary self-disclosures and license applications to various U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Commerce, the Department of the Treasury and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. She analyzes proposed projects to ensure international trade compliance and conducts due diligence for clients related to imports, exports and sanctions. Hannah is also a member of the team representing Irving H. Picard, the Securities Investor Protection Act Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, in connection with BakerHostetler's role as court-appointed counsel.

While in law school, Hannah served as an articles editor for the New York University Journal of Legislation and Public Policy and participated in the Equal Justice and Capital Defense Clinic.

Pro Bono

  • Represents clients referred to the firm by inMotion, an organization that offers free legal services to low-income women. Currently represents one client in a contested divorce case and another client in child support enforcement proceedings.
  • During law school, participated in the Equal Justice and Capital Defender Clinic, which is associated with the Equal Justice Initiative, a nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to indigent defendants and prisoners who have been denied fair and just treatment in the legal system. Investigated and drafted an appellate petition for a client facing execution in Alabama.
