Overview

Hurlie Collier is a labor and employment litigator with a background in commercial litigation. Due to his experience working for an international construction and engineering company, Hurlie approaches employment litigation from an in-house perspective to best resolve cases to his clients’ benefit.   • Served as lead counsel in a commercial litigation matter over ownership of a subsidiary co-owned by the client. The co-founder alleged that the client had misappropriated the company following their merger agreement and demanded return of the ownership of his company. The co-founder was sued and, after a bench trial, the court decided that the client did own a majority of the company. The co-founder was ordered to pay the client several million dollars in attorneys’ fees.
  • Strategically induced a plaintiff into perjuring himself regarding his educational background during a matter that had the plaintiff seeking millions of dollars in sales commissions. Settled the matter for nuisance value and saved the client a significant amount of money in litigation costs and possible damages after noticing discrepancies in the plaintiff’s previous resumes.

  • Proved a former football player seeking disability payments from a football league’s retirement fund was not permanently disabled while playing professional football. Through due diligence, showed that the former player had sued other companies and another football league for the same injury. Won a summary judgment and 5th Circuit appeal against the former player.
