Jody Schechter focuses her practice on litigation matters. Through her detail-oriented approach to her work, Jody is often able to make connections that would otherwise be overlooked, creating strategies based on thorough research.

While in law school, Jody was a member of the Texas International Law Journal, in which her student note, “Promoting Embryonic Stem Cell Research: A Comparison of Policies in the United States and the United Kingdom and Factors Encouraging Advancement,” 604 Tex. Int’l L.J. 603 (March 2010), was published.

  • Currently involved in representing Irving H. Picard, Securities Investor Protection Act (SIPA) Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, in connection with BakerHostetler's role as court-appointed counsel. 
  • Assisted with the representation of a sports association selling apparel in a 2nd Circuit appeal regarding trademark issues in cross-marketing across different product categories. Conducted extensive research and assisted with briefs.
  • Worked on a team defending a car manufacturer against a requested temporary injunction in connection with the sale of a dealership. Drafted emergency motions dealing with discovery and confidentiality, researched various issues including trade secret protection, and assisted with the review and assembly of evidence for depositions and discovery.

  • Worked on a team defending a corporate executive for allegations of accounting fraud, assisting with the assessment of evidence and preparation for depositions.

  • Currently representing a client in a defensive asylum proceeding in partnership with the Tahirih Justice Center.
  • Is involved in a juvenile criminal record sealing project in conjunction with the Houston Bar Association and Houston Alumni and Youth Center assisting former juvenile offenders in their efforts to find employment, secure housing and enter college without the roadblock of a minor criminal record.
