The article, “Class Action Lessons From The Wells Fargo Wage Settlement,” examined the recent $95.7 million class action settlement between Wells Fargo Bank NA and thousands of its California-based mortgage consultants, which was granted final approval in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. “The large settlement is not entirely surprising given that the court in the earliest-filed case made merits and damages determinations in favor of the plaintiff,” the article noted. “However, it is noteworthy that the settlement arises from claims regarding the technicalities of Wells Fargo's compensation program rather than, for example, claims that employees were not given rest breaks.”
