Overview

Smadar Gefen's professional record as an innovator reinforces her role preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). As a registered patent agent and electrical engineer, she has spent more than 20 years on the cutting edge of research and development for a range of  industries: From advancing neuro-cartography and 3D brain modeling for a university's neurobiology department, to invigorating game enhancements and sports broadcasts for a major cable television company, Smadar is no stranger to complex details. That background merges with her career at one of the world's best-known producers of entertainment, where -- in addition to contributing as an inventor -- she helmed the patent process, managing issues related to patent law and the company's patent portfolio, reviewed and approved prosecution transactions, and more.

Experience

Managed the patent processes and portfolio for Disney Research and ESPN, focusing on a broad range of technologies that spanned sports broadcast enhancements, animation and robotics. In addition to contributing as an inventor to inventions covering augmented reality, video analytics and related computer vision technologies, Smadar directed employees on issues related to patent law and patent practices; contributed to internal patent process procedures and guidelines; drafted patent applications, as well as reviewed and approved patent applications drafted by outside counsel; performed due-diligence and freedom-to-operate analyses to support management's IP-related decisions, and more.
