Smadar Gefen applies her research and development background in computer sciences and electrical engineering to help organizations develop patent assets, protect their investments in proprietary technologies, and build a patent portfolio that is instrumental in advancing their business objectives. Smadar has procured patents for high-tech corporations across diverse technologies in computer vision and video analytics, including augmented reality, robotics, machine-learning, animation, and video compression.

Smadar Gefen’s professional record as an innovator reinforces her role in preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). As a registered patent attorney and electrical and computer engineer, she has spent more than 20 years on the cutting edge of research and development for a range of industries: from advancing neuro-cartography and 3D brain modeling for a university’s neurobiology department to developing sports broadcast enhancements for a major cable television company.


Managed the patent processes and portfolio for Disney Research and ESPN, focusing on a broad range of technologies that spanned sports broadcast enhancements, animation and robotics. In addition to contributing as an inventor to inventions covering augmented reality, video analytics and related computer vision technologies, Smadar directed employees on issues related to patent law and patent practices; contributed to internal patent process procedures and guidelines; drafted patent applications; reviewed and managed prosecution work product of outside counsels; and performed due-diligence and freedom-to-operate analyses to support management’s IP-related decisions.
