Overview

Tom Warren serves as national co-leader of the firm's Appellate Practice team and as leader of the firm's Class Action Defense Appellate team. He focuses his appellate practice on the reversal of adverse jury awards and judicial decisions and the defense of important trial-court victories. Over the course of his career, Tom has been successful in reversing numerous jury verdicts and summary judgment decisions on appeal. He also serves as a strategic analyst and brief writer in bet-the-company litigation and other high-profile matters. Tom has been involved in more than 100 appeals to federal and state courts on issues of tax law, insurance law, bankruptcy law, class action law, intellectual property and trade secret law, employment law, contract law, and tort law.

Tom was named "Appellate Lawyer of the Year" in Cleveland by The Best Lawyers in America© for 2016. He is named in Chambers USA as a leading lawyer in the area of Commercial Litigation, with clients commending his ability to "frame an issue beautifully," adding that "he follows through."   • Successfully had the Ohio Supreme Court accept a discretionary appeal on the question of whether a private cause of action for the unauthorized practice of law could be maintained. A lower court's judgment was reversed and the judgment was directed in the client's favor.
  • Successfully had the Ohio Supreme Court accept a discretionary appeal on the question of whether a trial court order was a final appealable order and reverse the lower court's determination.
  • Had a summary judgment against a client reversed in a case involving an alleged breach of subordination agreement in connection with the sale of landmark Cleveland waterfront property.
