In an impressive testament to BakerHostetler’s strength in the fastest-growing practice of any area of law, the firm’s Digital Assets and Data Management (DADM) Practice Group earned high rankings in all six categories in BTI Consulting Group’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy 2020 report. The report, which draws on more than 250 in-depth interviews with top decision makers in 15 industries, including chief legal officers, general counsel, data privacy officers, chief compliance officers and associate counsel – data privacy, placed the firm in the top tier, “Powerhouse” ranking in four of six categories: Global Regulations, Litigation, Federal Agency Management and Class Actions. The firm was also ranked as a “Leader” in the State & Local Regulations and Federal Regulations categories, as well as a “Standout” in the Strategy & Counsel category.

“BakerHostetler continues to be at the forefront of helping clients leverage data and technology to transform their products and services, and I am delighted that our clients have recognized our multidisciplinary enterprise solutions approach to client service,” said firm chairman Paul Schmidt.

Additionally, the firm was named to the BTI Cybersavvy 16 list for demonstrating exemplary excellence in cybersecurity and data privacy among 109 law firms. According to BTI, Cybersavvy firms “know what is coming next and can interpret the requirements to help them get where they need to go” and “can simplify even the most complex legal matters and are unwavering in their dedication to clients.”

“We are honored that our commitment to cybersecurity and data privacy is so well-recognized across the broad spectrum of areas this survey covers,” said Ted Kobus, chair of BakerHostetler’s DADM Practice Group. “It is gratifying that our multidisciplinary approach to providing enterprise-wide risk solutions that address the entire life cycle of data is valued and respected by the industry.”

Launched in January 2020, the DADM Practice Group is a strategic outgrowth of BakerHostetler’s world-class Privacy and Data Protection and Advertising and Digital Media teams, combined with the firm’s innovative legal technology R&D team, IncuBaker. It integrates six service teams to provide clients with comprehensive legal solutions spanning the information life cycle of data: Digital Risk Advisory and Cybersecurity; Advertising, Marketing and Digital Media; Privacy Governance and Technology Transactions; Healthcare Privacy and Compliance; Privacy and Digital Risk Class Action and Litigation; and Emerging Technology. In a world dependent on data, the group takes a 360-degree approach to the delivery of services and counsel to clients on how they manage and use information, comply with regulations, incorporate new technology, and defend against internal and external threats.

“Clients are of two minds,” reads the introduction to the BTI Consulting Group’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy 2020 report. “They will stay with the firm with whom they go through a crisis – presuming the firm does a good job. The second group of clients asks themselves if their firm really will perform in a crisis. We are still in the proving-ground stage – law firms can emerge and establish themselves. But they will take on the current leaders who are pulling away from the pack.”

BakerHostetler’s placement in the prestigious rankings proves that when it comes to establishing authority in cybersecurity and data privacy, we lead the charge.
