Partner Carl Hittinger and Associate Alyse Stach authored an article published Jan. 24, 2020, by The Legal Intelligencer. The article, “When Routine Merger Review Opened More Than a Can of Tuna,” discusses how in 2014, a Department of Justice antitrust review of a proposed merger between canned-tuna giants Bumble Bee Foods and Chicken of the Sea uncovered a wide-ranging price-fixing scheme that also included rival StarKist. That investigation eventually led to civil lawsuits, massive fines, a bankruptcy filing and a criminal conviction against a company executive who will be sentenced shortly.
