BakerHostetler Tax Reform Webinar

Events / Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017

Former Congressman Mike Ferguson, leader of BakerHostetler’s federal policy team, held a special webinar on tax reform. Attendees heard directly from two key decision-makers in Congress, including Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill), who is the chairman of the Ways and Means Tax Policy Subcommittee. As the leader of the principal tax-writing subcommittee in the House, he’s in the room when key tax policy decisions are made.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), a freshman on the House Financial Services Committee, also joined the webinar. Gottheimer has spent his first several months in Washington trying to get the House to break out of its partisan paralysis and work on a bipartisan basis to advance key reforms like tax policy.

The last time Congress passed major changes to the tax code, phones still had rotary dials, televisions still had rabbit ears and Paul Ryan had just received his driver’s license. That was 1986. The U.S. economy today looks virtually nothing like it did in the mid-1980s, and Congress wants to change that by overhauling the tax code for the 21st century.

What will those changes mean for U.S. businesses, manufacturing, pass-throughs and individuals at all income levels?
