Webinar: 90 Days to 2020: Are You Ready for the California Consumer Privacy Act to Go Live?

Events / Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019

On October 8, 2019, BakerHostetler and Aon’s Cyber Solutions (formerly Stroz Friedberg) hosted a webinar discussing the impending implementation of the CCPA and tips on what companies may need to do to comply with its far-reaching requirements.

On January 1, 2020, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) will go into effect. Most companies collecting, using, sharing, or selling data regarding California residents are subject to the law, one of the toughest consumer privacy laws in the United States. Further, Nevada’s new “do not sell” law will go into effect October 1, 2019, imposing new obligations on operators of online services. This webinar will discuss how to comply with both laws and what companies can do to prepare for other new privacy laws under consideration in other states and at the federal level.

Topics included:
  • Update on CCPA – current state of play of legislative amendments and regulatory rule making
  • We are just over three months away from January 1 – are you prepared?
    • Data inventories and information governance
    • Responding to consumer requests
    • Identifying what constitutes a “sale” under the CCPA and Nevada law
    • Qualifying service providers and other exceptions from “sale”
    • How to treat interest-based advertising and cookies and tracking technologies
    • What is “reasonable security”
  • What will enforcement look like?
  • Alan Friel, Partner, BakerHostetler
  • Mike Borgia, Vice President at Aon’s Cyber Solutions
  • Heidi L. Wachs, Vice President at Aon’s Cyber Solutions
