Events / Monday, June 1, 2020
2:30 – 3:30 p.m. EDT

Please join former Congressman Mike Ferguson, leader of BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team, and former Congressman Heath Shuler, Senior Advisor for the Federal Policy team, as we continue our bipartisan webinar series with members of House leadership from each side of the aisle.

The United States is slowly reopening as leaders hope that the spread of COVID-19 is contained and some aspects of life can return to normal. Yet uncertainty still prevails, and the pandemic’s economic effects reverberate across the country.

Congress is looking to the next phase of its legislative response to assist states, businesses and individuals in their recovery. As leaders negotiate the details of that legislation, we’ll hear the bipartisan firsthand perspectives of two members of House leadership who were also chosen to lead the committee overseeing the congressional response.

Congressman Jim Clyburn serves as Majority Whip, the third-ranking Democrat in the House, and is chairman of recently created House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis. First elected in 1993, he is a former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus and has held several leadership positions within the Democratic Caucus. He has championed policies that benefit rural communities, particularly programs designed to spur economic development and job creation. Congressman Clyburn, the son a fundamentalist minister, began his career as a public school teacher.
