Webinar Series: Washington's Response to COVID-19: Republican Whip Steve Scalise, R-La.

Events / Wednesday, June 3, 2020
1:30 – 2:00 p.m. EDT

Please join former Congressman Mike Ferguson, leader of BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team, and former Congressman Heath Shuler, Senior Advisor for the Federal Policy team, as we continue our bipartisan webinar series with members of House leadership from each side of the aisle.

The United States is slowly reopening as leaders hope that the spread of COVID-19 is contained and some aspects of life can return to normal. Yet uncertainty still prevails, and the pandemic’s economic effects reverberate across the country.

Congress is looking to the next phase of its legislative response to assist states, businesses and individuals in their recovery. As leaders negotiate the details of that legislation, we’ll hear the bipartisan firsthand perspectives of two members of House leadership who were also chosen to lead the committee overseeing the congressional response.

Congressman Steve Scalise was first elected to represent southeastern Louisiana in 2008 and is currently the second-ranking Republican leader in the House as Republican Whip. He is the Republican Leader of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, and is also a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee which has jurisdiction over healthcare, telecommunications and energy policy. Scalise is a proud member of the Republican team in the annual Congressional Baseball Game for charity, and he returned to play in the past two games after being critically wounded in the attack on the team’s practice in 2017.
