Webinar Series: Washington's Response to COVID-19: Senator Roy Blunt, R-Mo.

Events / Thursday, April 2

Please join former Congressman Mike Ferguson, leader of BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team, and former Congressman Heath Shuler, Senior Advisor for the Federal Policy team for a series of webinars on the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, there’s nothing more important than the government’s response to the coronavirus. The Trump administration is taking an all-hands-on-deck approach, led by Vice President Mike Pence, and Congress in the past month approved three broad legislative packages addressing the crisis.

What more does Washington need to do? What’s working, and what’s not? What can Washington learn from local officials and first responders? Over the next several weeks, we plan to ask important questions of key decision-makers, and we’ll kick off this special series with a bipartisan pair of lawmakers from the House and Senate.

We’re excited to offer you the opportunity to hear firsthand from Republican and Democratic lawmakers on the first and only priority for Congress at this unprecedented time.

On Thursday, April 2, we heard from Senator Roy Blunt, R-Mo., who is chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds federal healthcare, education and labor programs. In that role, he is in the room as Congress crafts the emergency funding measures for the health agencies leading the government response. He is a longtime vocal advocate for funding research programs at the National Institutes of Health, such as those now working toward a vaccine. Senator Blunt chairs the Senate Rules Committee and serves on the Senate Commerce Committee and the Intelligence Committee. He is also a member of the Senate leadership as chairman of the Republican Policy Committee.
