In a May 21, 2014, article in Law360 entitled, “Myriad Problems In Wall Street High-Frequency Trade Suit,” Associate David McMillan discussed a class action filed against Wall Street banks, securities exchanges, and brokerage firms “over alleged violations of federal securities laws stemming from the defendants’ involvement in so-called ‘high-frequency trading.’” He included an explanation of the plaintiff’s allegations, including “Electronic Front-Running,” “Rebate Arbitrage,” “Slow-Market (or Latency) Arbitrage,” “Spoofing,” and “Layering.”

McMillan concluded, “Expect the HFT debate to continue gaining traction in the months ahead. The New York Stock Exchange, for its part, has already paid millions to the SEC to settle charges of HFT abuse.”
