Partner Kathryn Zunno-Freaney recently earned a prestigious recognition when she was named one of the 2020 “Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBT Bar Association. Each year, the honor goes to 40 LGBTQ+ legal professionals under the age of 40 – including lawyers, law professors, corporate counsel, politicians and members of the judiciary – who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality. The honorees will be recognized at an awards luncheon at the 2020 Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair, Aug. 12-14 in Washington, D.C.  “I am honored to receive this incredible award from the National LGBT Bar that acknowledges both my commitment to the LGBTQ+ community and my achievements as a litigator,” said Zunno-Freaney, whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and white collar defense. She is also actively involved in diversity, development and recruiting initiatives across the firm, serves as co-chair of the New York Office Mentor Committee, and is passionate about her service as a board member of the Ali Forney Center, a New York City nonprofit providing the nation’s largest and most comprehensive program dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless LGBTQ+ youth.  “Being selected for this award would not have been possible without the tremendous support I have received from the firm over many years – not just in helping me succeed in my practice, but doing so as my authentic self,” she added. “I am extremely fortunate to work at BakerHostetler, where my diversity is viewed as an asset and where I have amazing colleagues who have supported me every step of the way.”  An affiliate of the American Bar Association, the National LGBT Bar Association is a national association of lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, law students, activists and affiliated lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal organizations. It promotes justice in and through the legal profession for the LGBTQ+ community in all its diversity.
