BakerHostetler Advises Alterra Energy on Key IP Aspects of Deal with Neste

News / January 4, 2021

BakerHostetler provided intellectual property counsel to Alterra Energy in its recent collaboration with Finland-based Neste, which has taken a minority stake to support Alterra’s global expansion of its waste plastic recycling technology platform. Alterra, which is based in Akron, Ohio, developed and operates a waste plastics liquefaction plant that converts waste plastic into liquid product that can be refined and upgraded into high-quality feedstock for plastics and chemicals.

Neste is the world’s largest producer of renewable diesel and renewable jet fuel refined from waste and residues. In 2020, BakerHostetler Partner Michael VanNiel and a team from the firm’s Intellectual Property Group counseled Alterra across all dimensions of IP strategy, planning and development. The firm’s team guided Alterra through the IP aspects of its deal with Neste and continues to assist Alterra in IP matters.

The IP team assisting Alterra includes Partners John Murphy and Aaron Rabinowitz as well as Associate Edward King.
