Friel Comments on Need for Federal Privacy Legislation

Partner Alan Friel was quoted in a Sept. 13, 2018, article, “USA: Federal privacy framework ‘would create far greater efficiency,’” published on Friel commented on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Privacy Principles recommending Congress adopt a federal privacy framework. Friel commented that, following implementation of the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, other states may pass similar legislation, making it complicated for companies to comply when conducting interstate business. Friel noted, “A single, federal regulatory program for both privacy and security protection and breach notification would create far greater efficiency than a patchwork of state laws.”
