James Sherer, Emily Fedeles Discuss Ransomware at Richmond Journal of Law and Technology Symposium

Partner James Sherer and Associate Emily Fedeles were presenters at the annual Richmond Journal of Law and Technology (JOLT) Symposium, “Cyber Security: Protecting Against Cyber Threats and Data Breaches Through Encryption and Regulation” held on Feb. 24, 2017. Their panel, “Ransomware: History, Historians, and Honor – the Intersection of Preparation and Prevention,” covered topics they addressed in greater depth in the article they co-authored for the 2017 JOLT Annual Survey, “Ransomware - Practical and Legal Considerations for Confronting the New Economic Engine of the Dark Web.”  Sherer and Fedeles explained how ransomware works, reviewed the history of ransomware, and how victims might address ransomware’s direct and indirect impacts, and considered the future of ransomware operations.
