Michael Semes Comments on Likely Challenge to New Maryland Tax on Digital Ads

Of Counsel Michael Semes is quoted in an article published on Feb. 12, 2021, by Bloomberg Law. The article, “Maryland to Impose First of Its Kind Digital Advertising Tax,” reports on a new Maryland law that taxes digital advertising and notes that the novel legislation is likely to face legal challenges.

Semes told the publication, “I think it's hard to imagine how a court would not find that this violates the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act,” and he noted that legal battles also are likely in other states, where similar legislation is under discussion.
