Michelle Hervey Comments on Employee Retention Incentive Proposals

News / August 5, 2020

Partner Michelle Hervey is quoted in an article published on August 5, 2020, by Law360’s “Tax Authority” site. The article, “Virus Debate Could Hold Up Employee Retention Incentive,” is an analysis of U.S. House and Senate proposals regarding a tax incentive for employers to retain their workers during the pandemic.

Hervey told Law360 that it makes sense to prevent employers from double-dipping by using wages both for the employee retention credit and Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness. Allowing employers to take both may cause employers to take a second look at the employee retention credit, she said, adding, “It's sort of the second choice for everybody.”
