New York Partner Ona Wang Selected as Magistrate Judge

NEW YORK, July 25, 2017 — BakerHostetler is proud to announce Ona T. Wang has been selected by the Board of Judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District New York (SDNY) to serve as a Magistrate Judge, assuming the seat occupied by Magistrate Judge Andrew J. Peck. Wang has served as a partner in BakerHostetler’s litigation group for 11 years, focusing her practice on civil, criminal and regulatory issues, including as a member of the legal team handling the investigation and litigation arising from BakerHostetler’s appointment as counsel to the Securities Investor Protection Act Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Securities, LLC. She has served as the vice chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and a member of the firm’s Women’s Committee and Diversity Committee.

In addition to her work with the firm, Wang is a Master in the Federal Bar Council Inn of Court and a former member of the Executive Committee and current member of the Nominating Committee of the New York City Bar Association. She has served on the Second Circuit Judicial Conference Program and Planning Committee. Wang is a recipient of the New York Law Journal “Lawyers Who Lead By Example” Award and NYU Law School’s Public Service Award. She is a life fellow of the American Bar Foundation. She clerked for the Hon. Deborah A. Batts from 1998-2000. She holds an A.B. from Harvard University, a J.D. from New York University Law School and a Ph.D. in Zoology from Duke University.

Wang joins several BakerHostetler alumni in her judicial appointment, including one of the New York office’s founding partners, James Orenstein, who serves as a Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of New York, and New York office partner William F. Kuntz, who serves as a District Court Judge in the Eastern District of New York.
