PHILADELPHIA — Jan. 21, 2020 — BakerHostetler announced today that David Sherman has joined as a partner in the firm’s recently announced Digital Assets and Data Management Practice Group, where he will practice as part of the Digital Risk Advisory and Cybersecurity team in Philadelphia. Sherman was previously a partner at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP.

Sherman advises clients across several industries, including financial services, fintech, retail, manufacturing, health care, hospitality, municipal government, energy and construction, to proactively assess and mitigate cyber risk, facilitate incident response preparedness, and develop privacy and information security policies that comply with state, federal and international privacy and cybersecurity laws. Sherman also works with clients to manage their responses to any digital crisis. Well versed in negotiating and assessing his clients’ service provider and business agreements, Sherman routinely counsels clients on how to best optimize contractual rights and obligations so that exposure is minimized in the event of an incident.

“David’s deep experience working with clients to manage hundreds of data security incidents is a perfect fit for our robust Digital Risk Advisory and Cybersecurity team as we continue to strategically expand to meet growing client demand,” said Theodore J. Kobus III, chair of BakerHostetler’s DADM Practice Group. “He’s an excellent addition, with the skills needed to address the threats to companies’ digital assets, such as ransomware.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with several members of BakerHostetler’s Digital Risk Advisory and Cybersecurity team over the years and was very familiar with BakerHostetler’s reputation in the privacy and data security space,” said Sherman. “I’m excited to join such a dynamic team with a strong global footprint and well-known commitment to client service. I look forward to the continued growth of my practice while affording my clients the benefits of a full-service firm that can handle all their business needs.”

Sherman received his B.A. from Hamilton College and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, and he holds the designation of Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

The multidisciplinary DADM Practice Group integrates six service teams — including the internationally recognized Privacy and Cybersecurity and Advertising and Digital Media teams and the highly lauded IncuBaker team — to provide clients comprehensive risk legal solutions spanning the entire information life cycle.
