BakerHostetler Named a Cybersecurity "Pacesetter" in ALM Intelligence Inaugural Ranking

Press Releases / November 19, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nov. 19, 2020 – BakerHostetler’s Digital Assets and Data Management Practice Group (DADM) has been named a 2020 “Pacesetter” in Cybersecurity Services by ALM Intelligence Pacesetter Research, an independent research group focused on professional services. BakerHostetler is the only law firm to achieve Pacesetter status, as ALM researchers noted that the firm “goes to market with a business-led approach to information security that positions data as a critical asset of today’s digital enterprise.” The firm was also one of four law firms named “Market Leaders” in the report.

“We are grateful to our clients and the cybersecurity industry at large for recognizing our capabilities in this rapidly evolving area,” said Ted Kobus, chair of BakerHostetler’s DADM Practice Group. “Our focus has been on leveraging the market intelligence we gain from working on thousands of matters involving the lifecycle of data to help counsel our clients and guide their approach to identifying and evaluating data risks and assets.”

Eighteen cybersecurity market leaders were analyzed across legal, insurance, technology and management consulting segments, and ALM identified BakerHostetler as a Pacesetter based on its score in five core criteria:

  • Business model
  • Value proposition
  • Service delivery
  • Client enablement
  • Brand eminence

The firm earned its highest marks for its business model, value proposition and service delivery, closely followed by brand eminence. Providers whose aggregate score is 85 and above qualify as an ALM Pacesetter. In this research, elements of three criteria are weighted due to their importance in achieving competitive differentiation in cyber security services: ecosystem and innovation (business model) and risk management (service delivery).

ALM Intelligence Pacesetter research also noted that BakerHostetler “leads the law firm peer group in how it leverages its experience in research-based thought leadership,” referring to the DADM Group’s annual Data Security Incident Response Report, which provides a widely respected analysis based on the more than 1,000 cybersecurity incidents it handles each year. ALM noted that additional differentiators include the firm’s partnership with well-regarded technology vendors; IncuBaker, the research and development team that advances BakerHostetler’s innovation agenda; and strong relationships with the board and c-suite executives, General Counsels, CIOs, and CISOs.

The Pacesetter recognition follows BakerHostetler’s DADM Group’s designations earlier this year as both a BTI Cybersecurity Powerhouse and a BTI CyberSavvy Law Firm, as well as top national and global rankings by Chambers & Partners.

The DADM Practice Group integrates six service teams — Digital Risk Advisory and Cybersecurity; Advertising, Marketing and Digital Media; Privacy Governance and Technology Transactions; Healthcare Privacy and Compliance; Privacy and Digital Risk Class Action and Litigation; and Emerging Technology.
