BakerHostetler Names Matthew A. Tenerowicz Cleveland Office Managing Partner to Succeed Hewitt B. Shaw

CLEVELAND – Jan. 21, 2020 – BakerHostetler today announced that it has named Matthew A. Tenerowicz as its next Cleveland Office Managing Partner, succeeding Hewitt B. Shaw, effective Jan. 1.

“Throughout Hewitt’s nearly 40 years with the firm, he has contributed significantly to the Cleveland office, our national Tax Practice Group and our firm as a whole by ensuring excellent service and fostering long-term relationships with clients as the firm steadily increased in size and scope,” said Chairman Paul Schmidt. “I am thankful for Hewitt’s leadership and unremitting commitment to the firm’s success and look forward to Matt continuing that growth in client services and innovation.”

Tenerowicz joined the Cleveland office in 1998, currently serves as a leader of the Financial Services: Lending Industry team and is a member of the Cleveland office’s Hiring Committee. He previously led the firm’s national Emerging Companies team. Tenerowicz has substantial experience representing clients in mergers and acquisitions and sophisticated financing transactions, with an emphasis in the healthcare, manufacturing and financial services industries. He has been named one of America’s leading business lawyers by Chambers USA and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America© in Cleveland Banking and Finance Law. Tenerowicz received his B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University, 1995, summa cum laude, and his J.D. from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law, 1998, with honors.

Shaw served as the Managing Partner of the Cleveland office for nearly 15 years. In his almost 40 years with the firm, he has held many leadership positions, including Legal Services partner, Tax Practice Group chair and Policy Committee member. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America© since 1995 and was named a 2012 Cleveland “Lawyer of the Year” in tax law. Throughout his tenure, Shaw has overseen nearly all significant firm programs and trainings and advised on key strategic firmwide decisions.
