SAN FRANCISCO — March 9, 2020 — BakerHostetler announced today that the firm launched its 15th national office in San Francisco, California, with the addition of Robb Adkins, who joins the firm’s White Collar, Investigations and Securities Enforcement and Litigation team. Adkins will lead the new San Francisco office, located in the Transamerica Pyramid.

“We’ve been strategically expanding our presence on the West Coast over the past year with marquee leaders in the law such as Robb. His addition is an important step in our continued commitment to strengthen our West Coast presence,” said firm chairman Paul Schmidt. “He is a nationally recognized leader in complex white collar matters and we are delighted to have him serve as the head of our San Francisco office.” Last year, BakerHostetler was engaged to represent the Official Committee of Tort Claimants in the Chapter 11 mega case of PG&E Corporation, pending in the Northern District of California.

In the past year, BakerHostetler has added 17 attorneys to its roster in California. Last month, William Oxley of Dechert LLP, a first chair trial litigator and Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, joined the firm as head of litigation for the Los Angeles office.

“We are thrilled to have a seasoned lawyer such as Robb join us,” remarked Eric Sagerman, managing partner of BakerHostetler’s Los Angeles office. “Robb and Bill are excellent additions to our firmwide litigation group and enhance our abilities on the West Coast.” Sagerman was hired in January 2019 as part of an announced plan for the firm to grow its presence on the West Coast, where it now has offices in Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, San Francisco and Seattle.

Adkins joins BakerHostetler from Winston & Strawn, where he served as the managing partner of their San Francisco office, head of West Coast litigation and co-chair of their white collar practice. Adkins previously served under President Obama and alongside the United States Attorney General as Executive Director of the Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force. Prior to serving on the Task Force, he was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Central District of California and Chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Orange County, California. Before that, Adkins was one of the trial attorneys in the government’s criminal prosecution of Enron, participating in the prosecution of Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling. He is currently the national chair of the ABA White Collar Crime Committee.

"I am excited to join BakerHostetler and its highly regarded white collar and litigation attorneys. It is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor and open an office for a national law firm,” Adkins said. "I look forward to working with outstanding lawyers I have known for most of my legal career, in either the government or private practice, to build a destination trial practice on the West Coast.” Adkins received his B.A. from Stanford University and his J.D. from Georgetown University.

“We are thrilled that Robb is joining us and further expanding our litigation and white collar capabilities into Northern California,” said W. Ray Whitman, chair of BakerHostetler’s firmwide Litigation Group.

BakerHostetler’s Litigation Practice Group consists of nearly 400 attorneys across the firm’s offices nationwide. With its roster of litigators that includes former prosecutors, veteran civil trial lawyers and former government enforcement officials, including more than 20 lawyers formerly with the Department of Justice, the firm’s clients benefit from a team that can successfully represent them in nearly any type of case and proceeding. The firm’s White Collar, Investigations and Securities Enforcement and Litigation team comprises some of the country’s most experienced and seasoned lawyers, many of whom have served as former federal and state prosecutors and Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement attorneys.
