WASHINGTON, May 11, 2016 — BakerHostetler is pleased to announce that Barron Avery has been appointed to lead the firm’s Government Contracts team. Avery joined the firm in 2014 as a member of the Government Contracts team and has led notable matters for the firm’s government contracting clients. “It’s exciting to have Barron step into this role for the firm,” said John Gherlein, Chair of the Business Group. “His experience and passion for helping clients navigate complex issues in this ever-changing sector will help serve as a driving force in the leadership of the firm’s team.”

Avery’s practice focuses on counseling and representing government contractors and subcontractors in a wide range of matters involving all aspects of federal government contracting. Avery has litigated claims and disputes for clients before the Court of Federal Claims and the boards of contract appeals — particularly the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals (ASBCA), the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals (CBCA) and the Government Accountability Office Contract Appeals Board (GAOCAB) — and bid protests at the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and the Court of Federal Claims (COFC).

“Barron has a wealth of experience and insight in the government contracts space,” said Jeffrey Paravano, Managing Partner of the Washington office. “He and his team members regularly assist clients with devising innovative yet practical solutions relating to government contracts, and also provide assistance with due diligence relating to the acquisition of companies where government contracts are an important part of their revenue. Our team is in very good hands with Barron.”

“I’m excited to take the helm of BakerHostetler’s highly regarded government contracts team, which offers a strong bench covering every facet of government contracting,” said Avery. “I’m eager to guide the team in continuing to partner with our clients to help them achieve their goals in the government contracting sector.”

He currently serves as vice-chair of the ABA’s Public Contract Law Section’s Contract Claims and Dispute Resolution Committee, vice-chair of the Section’s Construction Division and Associate Editor of the Sections quarterly publication, The Procurement Lawyer. Avery also serves as a government contracts advisor on the Attorney Advisory Council with the National Association of Surety Bond Producers.
