WASHINGTON, D.C. — June 3, 2019 — Following a 12-year tenure as an attorney on the House Financial Services Committee, including most recently as its chief counsel, Kevin Edgar has joined BakerHostetler as counsel on its Federal Policy team.

Edgar brings more than a decade of experience navigating the committee’s broad jurisdiction – which includes banking, securities, housing, insurance and monetary policy – and matters associated with the inner workings of the House, Senate and executive branch. He has also worked with the people and mechanisms that drive the many federal agencies, entities and programs that fall under the Financial Services Committee’s purview, including but not limited to the Treasury Department, Federal Reserve, Securities and Exchange Commission, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, prudential regulators, Federal Housing Finance Agency, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Export-Import Bank, and the National Flood Insurance and Terrorism Risk Insurance programs.

Throughout his career, which prior to the Financial Services Committee included stints as associate director of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and as a senior counsel at the New York Stock Exchange, Edgar has helped to spearhead some highly significant pieces of financial legislation. He successfully crafted amendments to the Dodd-Frank Act and was instrumental in the reauthorization of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States in the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act of 2018, the passage of the Financial CHOICE Act of 2017, and the enactment of both the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act in 2018 and the JOBS Act of 2012.

“Kevin is one of the most well-connected and knowledgeable people in Washington and has played a core role in shaping the financial regulatory world as we know it today,” said former Rep. Michael Ferguson, who leads BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. “Having served on the Financial Services Committee both in the minority and the majority, Kevin also brings a history of working on a bipartisan basis, which is a core tenet of the policy work we do here at BakerHostetler.”

“It was an honor to serve on the House Financial Services Committee for 12 years,” said Edgar. “I’m excited to join the highly respected team here at BakerHostetler, where I’ll be able to draw on my experience in and out of government to help guide and counsel our clients through any of their financial policy needs.”

Edgar earned his B.A. from Boston College and his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law.

BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team comprises former members of Congress and other former senior congressional and committee staff as well as former executive branch officials. The team offers a full range of government affairs, public policy and lobbying services for businesses of all sizes and from all industries. The team provides clients with counsel informed by experience and relationships in order to minimize vulnerabilities and maximize opportunities.
