María Coor, Laura McMahon Named Among "Top 100 Female Lawyers" by Latinvex

Press Releases / April 27, 2016

CLEVELAND, April 27, 2016 — Partners María Coor and Laura J. McMahon are recognized on the 2016 list of “Latin America’s Top 100 Female Lawyers” by Latinvex magazine, a leading Latin American business publication. The editorial staff selects the top female lawyers specializing in Latin America by looking at nearly 100 international law firms. Latinvex chose 100 attorneys from 57 firms based in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and the Cayman Islands.

McMahon was selected in three categories — Banking & Finance, Energy and Infrastructure. This is her fourth consecutive year on the “Top Lawyers” list. Coor was singled out in the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) category. This is the third consecutive year she has been honored.

Maria Coor is a native Spanish speaker and she also is fluent in Portuguese. She represents clients in investigations and disclosures involving FCPA compliance and enforcement. Coor counsels clients with international operations, particularly in Latin America, including working with Brazilian affiliates of U.S. corporations to address FCPA compliance. Coor also counsels clients with operations in Latin America regarding environmental matters, including compliance issues and due diligence for international corporate acquisitions. Coor is a contributor to BakerHostetler’s Environmental Law Strategy blog, providing insight into the latest environmental developments in the energy, natural resources, chemicals and agricultural biotechnology industries.

McMahon focuses her practice on serving multinational clients in various industries across Latin America in the acquisition and disposition of assets and stock of companies, formation of joint ventures and consortiums, and bidding on governmental or state-owned companies’ projects. She has worked in the region for more than 25 years, representing public and private companies as well as family-owned businesses in a variety of transactions throughout Latin America. McMahon’s fluency in Spanish and Portuguese is an asset in providing counsel to clients in these cross-border transactions.

The Latinvex criteria for selection include regional and local prominence, prominence of the law firm, and awards and recognition from such sources as Chambers and Partners. Latinvex, based in Miami, focuses on Latin American news in the legal, technology and energy sectors.
