Press Releases / May 14, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C, May 14, 2014—BakerHostetler is proud to announce Associate María Coor was recognized on the 2014 list of “Latin America’s Top 50 Female Lawyers” by Latinvex magazine, a leading Latin American business publication. The editorial staff of Latinvex selects the top 50 female lawyers specializing in Latin America by looking at nearly 100 law firms. It chose 50 attorneys from 37 different firms based in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Cayman Islands.

Coor, who is a native Spanish speaker and fluent in Portuguese, represents clients in investigations involving Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance with a focus on Latin America, and Brazil, in particular. She also works with local counsel in Latin America to address environmental legal issues for multinational corporations, including conducting environmental due diligence for international corporate acquisitions. Coor has represented corporations making voluntary disclosures to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission and has also worked on international arbitration matters. She is a contributor to BakerHostetler's Environmental Law Strategy blog, providing insight into the latest environmental developments in the energy, natural resources, chemicals, and agricultural biotechnology industries.

“I’d like to congratulate María on this much-deserved recognition,” said Jeffrey H. Paravano, managing partner of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. “Our clients benefit greatly from María’s leadership dealing with cross-border environmental, white collar, and regulatory issues. Her strong understanding of business and her impressive language capabilities add to her ability to help clients succeed.”

Latinvex’s criteria for selection included attorneys’ recent track record on major deals, regional and local prominence, prominence of the law firm and awards, and recognition from such sources as Chambers and Partners. Latinvex, based in Miami, Florida, focuses on Latin American business, legal, and technology news.
