NEW YORK, June 20, 2017 — Rebecca Alexander was honored by Chambers USA with a 2017 Chambers Women in Law Award. Alexander, a partner in BakerHostetler’s Litigation Group, resident in the Denver office, won in the category of “Inspiring Role Model in Promoting Gender Diversity in the Legal Profession.” Associate Emily Fedeles, a member of the Litigation Group in the New York office, was named a finalist in the “Future Leader – Gender Diversity” category. This is the sixth year for the awards, which champion the achievements of legal practitioners who have brought about improvements in gender equality, women’s advancement and inclusion.

“Rebecca’s commitment to advancing and empowering women is truly inspirational,” said Partner Emily Crosby, chair of BakerHostetler’s Women’s Committee. “She is a shining example, role model, trailblazer and trusted mentor. We are so proud of her achievements, and pleased that she is being recognized for her important work.”

The Chambers “Inspiring Role Model in Promoting Gender Diversity in the Legal Profession” award recognizes a partner in private practice who has shown outstanding commitment to inspiring other female lawyers to be driven and strive toward achieving their career goals.

In its announcement of the award, Chambers USA noted that Alexander, only the second ever woman equity partner in the Denver office, has been a key figure in ensuring that management address diverse issues. She has accomplished this through her work on the Executive Committee of the Denver office. Alexander was chair of the Work/Life Sub-Committee of the firm’s National Women’s Committee. She developed a mentoring program for associates and lateral hires, resulting in her being named Mentor of the Year for 2012. She has spearheaded the women’s history month networking event for the Denver office for more than 11 years. In the community, she serves on the board of Florence Crittenton Services, educating and empowering teen mothers, as well as offering healthcare services.

Alexander’s practice consists of high-end family law for families with estates valued upwards of $5 million, routinely involving estates in the $25 million to $100 million range. She is a member of the firmwide Women's Committee. She currently serves as the Denver Office Business Development Leader. In May Alexander was honored by the Colorado Women’s Bar Association as recipient of its top award, the Mary Lathrop Award.

Chambers USA also named Emily Fedeles a finalist in its Chambers Women in Law Awards in the “Future Leader – Gender Diversity” category. This award recognizes associates or senior associates who are leading the way in the commitment to gender diversity and inclusion. Fedeles maintains a general litigation practice with a focus on electronic discovery, privacy and data protection, and complex commercial litigation.

Winning a Chambers Women in Law Award “sets a remarkably high precedent and marks an internationally-recognized achievement of excellence in furthering the advancement of women within the legal sphere,” according to Chambers. “The Awards seek to recognize these achievements, empower the people behind innovative women’s initiatives, and give greater visibility to gender diversity.”
