Joseph Esmont’s practice has focused on the representation of Trustees and creditors in distressed debt and bankruptcy situations. He has experience in fraud investigation, commercial foreclosures, bankruptcy sale transactions, landlord-tenant negotiations and media relations.
Examples of Mr. Esmont’s representation in bankruptcy cases include serving as a member of the Baker Hostetler team serving as counsel to Irving H. Picard, the SIPA Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, and Brian A. Bash, the chapter 7 Trustee for Fair Finance Company, an Ohio factoring company that ceased doing business after an FBI raid in November 2009 owing $200 million to investment certificate holders.
Mr. Esmont is the co-author (with Deborah Wilcox) of “Dealing with Consumer-Generated Content on Social Networking Sites,” a short guide to protecting intellectual property in the Facebook age, published in the Licensing Journal and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Journal.
