Associate Anat Maytal is quoted in an article published in the ABA Journal on Oct. 26, 2021. The article “Has COVID-19 Made the Workplace More Accessible for Lawyers with Disabilities?” reports on how the pandemic has allowed some lawyers with disabilities to find increased access to clients and more flexibility. Maytal, who is hard of hearing, participated in an Oct. 18 webinar on this topic.
She told the webinar attendees that when using Zoom, she can see her clients and colleagues clearly and either lip-read or access automatic captions during their conversations. But she also cautioned legal employers against using such tools to limit options for lawyers with disabilities.
“We can’t use these accommodations as a reason to keep people who have disabilities in a reduced role,” said Maytal. “That’s not what we want. We want these employees with disabilities to be part of our workforce in the most optimal and integrated way possible.”
