Overview

Mary Kate Wagner is an associate in the International Disputes Group, lending assistance on international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration and litigation. As Deputy Counsel with the Secretariat of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), she oversaw and managed hundreds of international and domestic arbitrations, including emergency and expedited-procedure arbitrations. Having spent more than seven years with the ICC, including two years in Paris, France, she provides in-depth knowledge on the application of the ICC Rules, as well as an insider’s perspective on the workings of the ICC Court.

Mary Kate also assists by identifying the most appropriate individuals to act as arbitrator within the international arbitration community, being familiar with their work and case management. She is also a frequent speaker on a broad range of international arbitration topics.

Experience

  • Assisted the ICC Court in scrutinizing arbitral awards, as well as with deciding on various issues such as arbitrator challenges, the constitution of arbitral tribunals and consolidations.
  • Reviewed and processed requests for arbitration and other documents filed by parties and arbitrators, answered queries regarding the application of the ICC Arbitration Rules and met with key players in the legal and business community to present ICC dispute resolution services.
  • Researched and wrote memoranda on issues involving international commercial arbitration (e.g. the joinder of non-signatories, national enforcement proceedings and multiparty contracts).
  • Collaborated with the Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General and Managing Counsel to draft an updated version of The Secretariat’s Guide to ICC Arbitration (still awaiting finalization).
