Federal Circuit Affirms Lack of Enablement of Functional Antibody Claims

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 2, 2021 – BakerHostetler announced today that Daniel Kirkpatrick and Davina Sashkin have joined the firm on March 1 and will be part of the Business Practice Group’s Regulatory and Government Compliance team and Communications Industry team.  Kirkpatrick joins the firm as a partner in Washington, D.C. and has broad experience representing clients on a variety of regulatory and transactional matters, primarily in the area of communications law, with a focus on television, radio and other content producers. His background includes counseling television stations on an array of cable and satellite carriage issues, including the negotiation of retransmissions consent and other carriage agreements. Kirkpatrick is also well versed in navigating compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations affecting their day-to-day operations, as well as sale, purchase, and financing transactions.  “I’m thrilled to be at BakerHostetler and to continue to grow the FCC practice at such a well-respected firm,” said Kirkpatrick. “It has a stellar reputation for fostering strong business relationships and a culture that is both inclusive and supportive, and I look forward to working with the firm’s lawyers across the nation to better serve clients in the communications industry."  Through his work with television and radio stations, Kirkpatrick has gained deep knowledge in compliance matters with the FCC’s media ownership rules, including those related to foreign ownership of broadcast outlets. He also has deep experience with the FCC’s political broadcasting regulations and other content restrictions, as well as Equal Employment Opportunity regulations. Kirkpatrick has assisted numerous radio and television stations with routine and non-routine licensing matters and license renewal proceedings and has guided broadcast clients through the regulatory and transactional aspects of station purchases, sales and financings.  Kirkpatrick is joined by Sashkin, who will serve as counsel at the firm and is currently resident in Texas. Sashkin also has extensive experience advocating before the FCC for broadcast and telecommunications clients seeking policy and regulation changes and compliance, as well as a depth of experience representing clients in enforcement actions and in hearings before the FCC.
