2020 has become a year of unforeseen convulsions around the world and especially in the United States. Just as most of the nation took its first steps toward emerging from the unprecedented economic shutdown caused by COVID-19, cities from coast to coast faced massive unrest and even violence in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.

Reforms in response to the outcry over police tactics add to an already-packed legislative agenda as lawmakers continue to focus on relief legislation to promote economic recovery while protecting public health. BakerHostetler is presenting two more opportunities to hear the latest from top leaders in Congress.

Congressman Steny Hoyer is serving his second stint as House Majority Leader, the second-ranking member of House leadership. He was first elected to represent his suburban Washington district in 1981. Congressman Hoyer has been an active lawmaker in many of the farthest-reaching laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
