Alan Friel Comments on Submission of Final Rules for CCPA

News / June 2, 2020

Partner Alan Friel is extensively quoted in an article published June 2, 2020, by Law360. The article, “Calif. AG Finalizes Privacy Law Despite Unresolved Issues,” reports on the final rules submitted for the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Friel told the publication that there were no substantive changes from the most recent previous version of the rules. He said that was probably a good thing for companies that have been preparing since then. "To get a complete rewrite 30 days before the enforcement date would be a lot more chaotic," he said.

But he also said that he expected further revisions to the CCPA because there are still unresolved issues. For example, there is still no guidance on what constitutes a sale of data or how third-party cookies on websites are to be treated, he said.
