COSTA MESA, Calif. — June 1, 2021 — BakerHostetler announced today that Kristin L. Yokomoto has joined the firm as a partner in its Costa Mesa office. Yokomoto will serve in the firm’s Private Wealth practice group.  “Kristin has a strong background in estate planning, having worked with a wide range of families and individuals to ensure that they have effective plans in place for transitioning their assets,” said Robert Galloway, leader of the Private Wealth practice. “She understands the value of maintaining long-term, trust-based client relationships, and she is an invaluable addition to the team.”  Yokomoto focuses her practice on helping families and high-net-worth individuals plan for the transfer of their wealth to the next generation and charities. She counsels business owners on tax-efficient and pragmatic transitions of their entity ownership interests in ways geared to minimize taxes and maximize the chance of a smooth transition. Yokomoto advises corporate trustees and private individual fiduciaries to fulfill their duties and responsibilities to heirs and beneficiaries without creating exposure. She also counsels trust and estate beneficiaries to understand and enforce their inheritance rights informally and formally through the probate court process. Prior to focusing on wealth transition, Yokomoto practiced in the area of securities laws, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions, and prior to law school, she was a financial analyst for Fortune 500 companies.  “There are many reasons why I decided to move to BakerHostetler’s nationally recognized Private Wealth practice, most notably its established team of highly talented and devoted professionals who build and maintain relationships with clients based upon trust and diligence,” said Yokomoto. “I’m thrilled to join the firm’s collaborative culture and look forward to working with the private wealth team and the network of attorneys in other practice groups to provide holistic solutions for my clients.”  Yokomoto has recently been appointed as a member of the California Trusts and Estates Section Executive Committee, which is on the front line of legislative proposals, and she is a member of the selective blue-ribbon Orange County Bar Association’s Professionalism and Ethics Committee. She is also an invited member of the Professional Standards Committee of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Worldwide, which is based in the United Kingdom and advises families across generations. As the former chair of STEP Orange County, she has had the privilege of working with nationally and internationally known practitioners who are committed to helping professionals master their practice. Yokomoto is a Certified Specialist by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. She is also a grader of the legal specialization examinations issued by the State Bar and a volunteer arbitrator of client fee disputes for the Orange County Bar Association.  Yokomoto earned her LL.M. in taxation from Chapman University, a second LL.M. in taxation from the University of San Diego, her J.D. from the University of Arizona School of Law, where she was a member of the Arizona Law Review, her M.B.A. from the University of Arizona, and her B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  “Kristin is highly respected by both her clients and huge industry players across the nation,” said George T.
