In addition to her position at BakerHostetler, Sydney is a speaker, sports and gender equity advocate, event host and writer. In 2021, she held the title of Miss New York and spent her year championing inclusivity and acceptance in sports through advocacy and partnerships with national organizations like Athlete Ally, the Women's Sports Foundation and Up2Us Sports. A staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, Sydney was one of the first candidates to use her platform as a state titleholder to advocate for transgender inclusion in sports on the Miss America stage.
Her Miss New York title brought her to the 100th Anniversary Miss America stage, where she placed third runner-up and was awarded a Talent Award for her performance of her original poem, "Sit Like a Lady." Sydney's Miss America run garnered national press attention, as she was featured on GMA3 and in the Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone and the New York Times. Back in New York City, she was recognized by Disney on Broadway as one of the city's most influential women. She has been recognized by both the New York State Assembly and Buffalo Common Council for her work as Miss New York advocating for the importance of youth sports. Sydney brought her passion for youth sports to the field and has served as a youth soccer coach with South Bronx United for the Girls U11 program.
Her philanthropic endeavors extend to aspects of her legal practice addressing the rising animus against young trans athletes across the country. She helped represent dozens of professional and Olympic athletes, the Women’s Sports Foundation, Athlete Ally and the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association as amici in B.P.J. v. W.V. State Board of Educ. et al before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. The amici included soccer stars Megan Rapinoe, Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger; WNBA star Layshia Clarendon; and Olympians Angela Hucles Mangano, Megan Duggan and Meike Babel. She helped draft a brief highlighting the crucial role that sports can play in a young person’s life and the importance of allowing transgender youth athletes to compete alongside their peers.  She continues to support these organizations and the athletes they serve by providing guidance and legal counsel on a variety of matters.
