After Two Years, BakerHostetler Returns to the HRC NY Gala

News / April 30, 2022

BakerHostetler was a sponsor of the HRC NY Gala, held April 30, 2022, at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization and a pro bono client of our firm. BakerHostetler serves on HRC’s strategic impact litigation initiative, a pro bono partnership assisting the organization with litigation.

The firm was co-counsel with HRC on behalf of the plaintiffs in a U.S. Eastern District of New York case, Asapansa-Johnson Walker, et al. v. U.S. Dep’t of Health and Human Services, et al., which sought to halt regulations instituted in 2020 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that attempted to roll back anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ patients in healthcare. The court granted the plaintiffs’ motion to enjoin the rollback and the matter remains pending.

HRC’s annual gala honors those who support and promote LGBTQ+ rights and features speakers, entertainment and opportunities for networking and engagement. New York Governor Kathy Hochul and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer were among the distinguished guests who delivered remarks at the dinner.

Joining BakerHostetler attorneys were guests from Gaingels and Spectrum Communications. Conversation was lively and all in attendance enjoyed being together and supporting HRC.
