Daniel Kaufman Quoted in Marketing Brew Regarding Proposed FTC Privacy Bureau

News / August 5, 2022

On August 5, 2022, Partner Daniel Kaufman was quoted in a Marketing Brew article titled “Congress wants the FTC to create a bureau dedicated to privacy. And that’s a big deal.” The article reports that the American Data Privacy Protection Act (ADPPA), introduced in June and proposing such a bureau, has bipartisan support. A federal privacy bureau would broaden the scope of how the FTC could enforce the law, the article says.

“It would dramatically elevate the profile of privacy in this country and the agency internationally,” Kaufman says. “It’s almost limitless in terms of what the FTC can do.” He made the comments during a LinkedIn Live hosted by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

The final version of the bill is likely to change before a vote is taken, the article notes.
