Overview

Mark Bentley focuses on the design and execution of patent portfolio strategies, working with clients to draft new patent filings and build and manage their portfolios. He concentrates on a range of technical areas, including medical devices, consumer electronics, oil and gas, automotive systems, renewable energy and aerospace systems.

With extensive experience in patent portfolio management for a wide variety of clients across various industries, Mark supports early-stage companies with original patent portfolio establishment and through fundraising events and transactions that require due diligence and analysis of intellectual property assets. He also assists larger clients with robust international patent porfolios relating to commercialized products. 

Mark has worked with medical device clients that develop neurovascular, cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, gastroesophogeal, opthalmic and radiation-based treatments, as well as consumer electronics clients that develop wearable devices, communication devices, input devices and other personal electronic devices.

Mark also provides clients with portfolio analysis, including validity and non-infringement opinion work. In addition, he handles inter partes review (IPR) proceedings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

  • Conducted diligence for investment rounds of several early stage medical deivce companies.
  • Trial counsel for defendant in patent and trademark litigation against patent holder, resulting in favorable settlement with no admission of infringement.
  • Advised client on intellectual property valuation during initial public offering.
