The Oct. 14, 2022, edition of the Financial Times’ Cryptofinance newsletter, “Crypto, sanctions and the First Amendment,” quotes Partner Teresa Goody Guillén regarding a lawsuit brought against the U.S. Department of the Treasury and its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). The suit alleges that OFAC overstepped its authority and violated the First Amendment by sanctioning cryptocurrency company Tornado Cash, which Treasury says laundered more than $7 billion.
Regardless of the suit’s outcome, Goody Guillén told the Financial Times that it could help “enhance our blockchain laws and policy to increase public discourse around open source software tools generally.”
