Betsy Cohen focuses her practice on healthcare law, concentrating on regulatory and government compliance of hospitals, hospital systems, medical facilities and providers. Betsy advises hospital systems and providers on physician employment and other service agreements and addresses licensure and credentialing issues. She has broad legal experience advising clients on state and federal law, state rules and regulations, litigation matters and representing state agencies in administrative hearings involving professional occupational licenses.
Prior to joining BakerHostetler, Betsy was an Assistant Attorney General with the Georgia Department of Law, serving in the Regulated Industries and Professions Division, where she ensured compliance with the laws and regulations affecting physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers, along with many other professionals. She routinely provided legal advice to state professional licensing boards on matters involving licensure applications, investigations, impairment and the extensive regulatory issues that routinely came before the boards.
In addition, Betsy prosecuted disciplinary cases on behalf of the boards in the Office of State Administrative Hearings, the superior courts, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. She has defended her clients in administrative law matters brought in superior court. Prior to her service with the Georgia Office of the Attorney General, Betsy was the staff attorney for the Georgia Composite Medical Board.
